A surgeon in England has sparked nationwide outrage by claiming he could not find a sterile scalpel and instead used a Swiss Army knife to open the chest of a patient who suffered a heart attack. Allegations that the same surgeon's three patients died shortly after their surgeries have also garnered significant attention.
A surgeon in England, whose name is kept confidential, claimed that he could not find a sterile scalpel during surgery and opened the patient's chest with a Swiss Army knife. It has been reported that the surgeon, who used a Swiss Army knife, performed three low-risk surgeries in the last two months, and all three patients died shortly after. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the British police are conducting an investigation involving a total of 105 separate clinical negligence cases related to the hospital.
'REPAIRABLE THEMES' REVEALED IN THE REGULATIONS
The foundation operating the hospital stated that the patient who underwent surgery with a Swiss Army knife needed to undergo an emergency operation but suffered a heart attack before entering the operating room, thus requiring life-saving care. While it was reported that the same surgeon, who used a Swiss Army knife, performed three surgeries in which the patients died shortly after, the Care Quality Commission found no violation in the regulations related to the deaths, but added that the investigations conducted by the foundation revealed "repairable themes."
