After the sharp rise in global markets yesterday, the tide has turned downward for gold and oil. Spot gold, which had reached $4,450, fell to $4,315, while Brent crude, which had tested above $90, retreated to $87. In the domestic market, gram gold, which had peaked at 6,834 TL, also started the new day at 6,640 TL, losing approximately 200 TL from its highest level.
After the sharp rises in global markets yesterday, the needle has turned downwards today. A rapid pullback is being seen in oil prices, which rose to $90 yesterday, and in spot gold, which hit $4,450. In the domestic market, gram gold surprised its investors by turning back from its peak.
NOTABLE MOVEMENT IN OIL PRICES
The fluctuations in the Brent oil market have reached quite striking dimensions. The price of Brent crude for October delivery, which tested its highest level of $90.07 during the day yesterday, reversed its course towards the close and ended the day at $88.98.
BRENT OIL FALLS TO $87
Oil prices, which continued their downward trend in the new day, deepened their losses. With the selling pressure following the opening, Brent oil has started trading at $87 as of now.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN FACTORS BEHIND THE DECLINE?
The reasons behind this sudden pullback in the markets have begun to become clear. In particular, global and US-origin data largely alleviating concerns about oil supply in the market triggered the decline. Additionally, rising positive expectations for an extension of the ceasefire between the US and Iran strengthened the perception that there would be no supply shortage, accelerating the decline in prices.
SHARP TURN FROM THE PEAK IN THE GOLD MARKET
A similar picture to oil is being seen in the gold market. Gold prices, which tested record levels yesterday, started the new trading day with significant value losses and, contrary to expectations, a downward trend. Spot gold, which had gained a great upward momentum in global markets yesterday and climbed to $4,450, could not hold at this level. Due to profit-taking, spot gold experienced a sharp decline as of 06:00 CET today, falling to $4,315 and giving back a significant portion of its gains from yesterday.
GRAM GOLD SURPRISES THE DOMESTIC MARKET
Gram gold, closely followed by millions of investors in domestic markets, also got its share of this sharp volatility in global markets. In the domestic spot market, gram gold had excited its investors by reaching its highest level of 6,834 TL during yesterday's trading.
A LOSS OF 200 TL IN ONE DAY
However, the selling pressure coming from the peak was also felt in the domestic market. Gram gold, which tested 6,834 lira yesterday, started today's trading at 6,640 TL. As a result of this sharp movement, gram gold lost about 200 TL at once from its highest level seen in just one day.
