Leicester City, which achieved one of the biggest surprises in football history by winning the Premier League title in 2016, has been put up for sale. It was stated that King Power, the club's owner for 16 years, expects a fee of over 234 million Euros for the sale.

Leicester City, who achieved one of the biggest surprises in football history by winning the Premier League title in 2016, has been put up for sale.

BUYER SOUGHT WITH "PROJECT LINEUP"

According to Sky Sports, King Power, controlled by the Thai Srivaddhanaprabha family, has begun searching for potential buyers for Leicester City. The sale process, conducted with the advisory of US-based investment bank Citigroup, has been named "Project Lineup." An eight-page prospectus describing the club's situation and assets was sent to potential investors. The document valued Leicester City's physical assets at approximately 262 million Euros, while no separate valuation was made for the football teams. Leicester City, however, refused to comment on the sale process.

STADIUM AND TEAMS ALSO IN THE PACKAGE

The sale package includes Leicester City's men's and women's football teams, its academy, the 32,000-seat King Power Stadium, and the club's training facilities. Belgian club OH Leuven is also among the assets King Power is offering for sale.

The Seagrave training center, which Leicester began using in 2020, has been valued at approximately 141.5 million Euros. The Belvoir Drive facility used by the women's team and the land around the stadium were also included in the package.

211 MILLION EUROS LOSS OVER THREE YEARS

Leicester City's sporting decline has been accompanied by significant financial losses. The total pre-tax losses announced by the club for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 financial years reached approximately 211 million Euros. The most recent financial statements also included approximately 121 million Euros in bank loans.

It was stated that King Power has converted approximately 351 million Euros of club debt into equity in recent years. Sky Sports reported that following these transactions, Leicester has been marketed as a largely debt-free club during the sale process. The document prepared by Citigroup stated that the club's revenue for the 2026 financial year is expected to exceed 113.5 million Euros.

RELEGATED TO THIRD TIER IN TWO SEASONS

One season after being relegated from the Premier League, Leicester City also bid farewell to the Championship, heading to League One. Leicester, dropping to the third tier after two consecutive relegations from the top level of English football, became the fifth team to experience this in the Premier League era.

Leicester will compete in the third tier of English football for the second time in their history in the 2026-2027 season. The club has been relegated three times in the last four seasons while being promoted to the Premier League once as Championship champions.

5000-TO-1 TITLE IN SALE DOCUMENT

The document presented to potential investors also highlighted Leicester's past major achievements. Emphasis was placed on the 2016 Premier League trophy, won with 5,000-to-1 odds, as well as the FA Cup and Community Shield victories achieved in 2021.

In the document, Leicester City was introduced as the sixth most successful club in English football since 2000. Transfer income generated from players such as Ben Chilwell, Harvey Barnes, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall was also cited as an example of the club's commercial potential. Gary Lineker and Emile Heskey were also listed among former stars who were developed by Leicester or for whom the club held significant importance in their careers.

16-YEAR ERA MAY END

King Power acquired Leicester City from Milan Mandaric in 2010 for approximately 41 million Euros. Under the leadership of Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha, Leicester achieved the historic Premier League title in 2016. Following Vichai's death in a helicopter crash outside the stadium on October 27, 2018, his son Aiyawatt "Top" Srivaddhanaprabha took over the club's chairmanship. It was stated that King Power is in no hurry to sell and will continue its financial support for the club until a reliable buyer is found. If the sale takes place, the 16-year King Power era at Leicester City will come to an end.
