The Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye (CBRT) will announce its seventh interest rate decision of the year today. The decision from the Monetary Policy Committee meeting, which the markets are closely following, will be announced at 14:00. Economists expect the policy rate to be cut by 100 basis points to 36 percent.
The Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (TCMB) Monetary Policy Committee will meet under the chairmanship of Governor Fatih Karahan. Following the meeting, the interest rate decision and the text containing the rationale for the decision will be shared with the public.
ECONOMISTS EXPECT A 100 BASIS POINT CUT
The Central Bank kept the one-week repo auction interest rate unchanged at 37% at its September meeting.
Economists participating in the expectation survey for October, however, forecast a 100 basis point cut in the policy rate. If this expectation materializes, the interest rate will decline from 37% to 36%.
MARKETS' EYES ON THE CENTRAL BANK
Domestic markets have focused on the decision to be announced by the Central Bank. In addition to the interest rate decision, the messages to be given in the published text regarding the future period of monetary policy will also be followed.
The MPC is also expected to continue cutting interest rates at its final meeting of the year on December 10.
Also on the markets' agenda are the deliberations on the Fund Law bill at the General Assembly of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the Capital Markets Board's (SPK) decision to suspend the activities of three brokerage firms.
