SPOTTED IN THE STREETS OF TEL AVIV

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery, which the U.S. Department of Defense announced it would deploy in Israel against the Iranian threat, was spotted in the streets of Tel Aviv as military personnel were being dispatched to the area where it will be established.

JET-FAST RESPONSE FROM IRAN

While the images have resonated widely in the global public opinion, a jet-fast response came from Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh. Nasirzadeh stated that the deployment of THAAD systems, known as Terminal High Altitude Area Defense, by the U.S. to Israel is not a new situation and that they consider it part of a psychological war.

Pointing out that these systems have been deployed in Israel before, Nasirzadeh said, "THAAD is a defense system against ballistic missiles, but it is not a new issue; it has been there before. We evaluate this issue within the framework of psychological warfare, and it is not a special problem."

THAAD AIR DEFENSE SYSTEM

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery is a defense system designed to detect and destroy short, medium, and intermediate-range ballistic missiles in their terminal phase of flight. Although the THAAD system, produced by Lockheed Martin, has generally entered the inventory as an interim solution for Scud and similar MRBMs, it also has partial defense capabilities against more advanced and long-range intercontinental ballistic missiles. It tracks and engages incoming threats using high-altitude targeting and advanced radar technology.

The purposes of THAAD are as follows;

Ballistic Missile Defense: THAAD is designed to destroy enemy ballistic missiles, especially short and medium-range ones, after they are launched.

High Altitude Related Defense: The system provides effective defense by targeting at high altitudes during the terminal phase of ballistic missile flight.

Target Detection and Tracking: THAAD detects and tracks threats using advanced radar systems.

Military Strategy: By enhancing a country's defense capabilities, it creates a deterrent effect against potential threats. Therefore, THAAD is considered an important defense tool, especially in countries with regional security concerns.
