At the press conference following the NATO Summit, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni drew attention by drinking a glass of water from the podium in one go, just before a question about her political tensions with US President Donald Trump. Meloni then responded to the question about Trump by saying, "I will not revisit that topic," while stating that she does not regret her political choices.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni appeared before the press after the 36th NATO Summit of Heads of State and Government held at the Presidential Complex and made statements about NATO's future, defense spending, and relations with the United States.
Just before the press conference addressed a question about the political tension with Donald Trump, Meloni was seen downing a glass of water on the podium in one go, which was captured by cameras.
TENSION WITH TRUMP QUESTIONED
Meloni was later reminded of US President Donald Trump's post about her, which said, "A removal decision is needed."
The Italian leader responded to this question by saying, "I had stated that I would not return to that subject."
When asked if she regretted her political investment in relations with Trump, Meloni said, "I regret nothing I have done. I made the political investment with my belief in the unity of the West. This is not just a strategy I adopted when Trump took office, but a general approach I follow with all my counterparts."
ALSO SENT A MESSAGE ON IRAN
Meloni further stated that Italy had clearly expressed from the very beginning that it would not participate in attacks against Iran and that it had not changed its stance.
Noting that the military option has not yielded concrete results on the Iran issue, Meloni reiterated her call for diplomacy.
