Following the decision, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani stated that a dark chapter in Syria's history has closed, announcing the lifting of the "state sponsor of terrorism" classification that had been in place since 1979 due to the former regime.

The administration of US President Donald Trump has formally notified the US Congress of its intention to remove Syria from the "State Sponsors of Terrorism" list, initiating a 45-day pre-notification process as required by law.

Following the decision, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani made a statement on his social media account.

In his post, Al-Shibani said: "In line with the instructions of President Ahmed Al-Shara, we have closed a dark page in Syria's history. The classification of Syria as a state sponsor of terrorism, imposed in 1979 due to the policies of the former regime, has been lifted.

For this decision, I extend my most sincere thanks and appreciation to the United States under President Trump. I also thank my friend Secretary of State Marco Rubio, valued Ambassador Tom Barrack, and everyone who stood by Syria."

Following the statement, Ahmed Al-Shara and Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani were seen taking a photo with Trump's letter.
