In a case in Diyarbakır, Bülent Arpacı, who killed Merve Nur Yararlık at a cafe in a shopping mall, the father Osman Yararlık, who had previously withdrawn his complaint, became a complainant again, stating that the incident was not an accident.

SHOT IN THE NECK WHILE SITTING AT THE CAFE

The incident occurred on March 8, 2025, at a cafe located at the entrance of a shopping mall on the Şanlıurfa highway. Bülent Arpacı, who came to the cafe, opened fire with a pistol from outside. The bullet from the pistol hit Merve Nur Yararlık in the neck as she was sitting at the cafe. In the incident, which was captured on security camera, a man named S.K., who was next to her, was also injured. Upon notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Health officials determined that Yararlık had died, and S.K. was taken to the hospital for treatment after initial intervention. Merve Nur Yararlık's body was laid to rest at Yeniköy Asri Cemetery after an autopsy at the Forensic Medicine Institute.

FAMILY HAD WITHDRAWN THEIR COMPLAINT

Murder suspect Bülent Arpacı was captured in an operation by teams from the Public Order Branch Directorate Homicide Bureau at the Pirinçlik location. After processing, Arpacı was sent to the courthouse and arrested by the court.

The indictment prepared by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against detained suspect Bülent Arpacı was accepted by the 3rd Heavy Penal Court. In the indictment, an aggravated life sentence along with 15 to 24 years in prison was sought for detained suspect Bülent Arpacı on charges of 'Intentional killing', 'Attempted intentional killing', and 'Purchasing, carrying, or possessing ammunition with an unlicensed firearm'. The indictment stated that on May 20, the father of Merve Nur Yararlık withdrew his complaint via a petition, claiming the death occurred accidentally, and the mother also declared she had no complaint.

REQUESTED HIS RELEASE

Merve Nur's family, detained suspect Bülent Arpacı, their lawyers, and a lawyer from the Ministry of Family and Social Services attended the 4th hearing at the Diyarbakır 3rd Heavy Penal Court. In his defense, suspect Bülent Arpacı claimed he did not know Merve Nur Yararlık, only knew S.K., and requested his release.

"HE SENT US MONEY"

Taking the floor in the hearing, Merve Nur's father Osman Yararlık, who had previously withdrawn his complaint against the suspect, stated that he was filing a complaint again, saying, "After my daughter died, the psychology of my other children also deteriorated. My younger children, who are preparing for exams, were negatively affected by this incident. The other party sent us around 1 million TL through intermediaries. Since we were dealing with condolences anyway, the money given during that time went to expenses. We can return the money sent if they want. Initially, I was told the incident was an accident, but I believe the incident was intentional and not an accident. Therefore, I am filing a complaint," he said.

The hearing was adjourned until September 29 to await the report to be prepared on suspect Bülent Arpacı, who was sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institute to determine whether he was of sound mind.
