The Meteorology General Directorate (MGM) Weather Forecast Specialist Cengiz Çelik explained the details of the expected weather conditions across the country at the beginning of the year.
Çelik stated that citizens traveling for the New Year's holiday should be cautious against icing, frost, fog, and haze, saying, "On December 31, Tuesday, there will only be showers along the eastern Black Sea coast. Additionally, we may see light rain and snowfall, albeit briefly, in the inner parts of the Mediterranean, especially in the eastern regions. Other than that, we do not expect any precipitation for most of the country on December 31, Tuesday," he expressed.
NO PRECIPITATION EXPECTED ON JANUARY 1
Speaking about the first day of the new year, Çelik said, "On January 1, Wednesday, we will see a day without precipitation across the country, but temperatures will be around seasonal norms. We do not expect any precipitation on either December 31 or January 1. There is no significant change in temperatures. The highest temperatures in Ankara are expected to be around 10-11 degrees, in Istanbul around 12-13 degrees, and in Izmir, we expect the lowest temperatures to be around 14-15 degrees. We do not expect any precipitation across the country until the weekend," he stated.
"WE WILL BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF RAINY WEATHER STARTING FROM THE WEEKEND"
On the other hand, Çelik indicated that the first week of the new year will be under the influence of rainy weather, using the following expressions: "Starting from the weekend, we will enter a new rainy weather system beginning from the western regions. The rainy system has already lost its effect, but there is no significant increase in temperatures. It will continue to remain around seasonal norms. Additionally, especially during the night and early morning hours, we may experience icing and frost, along with fog and haze in the inner and eastern regions.
In our three major cities, we do not expect any precipitation from Tuesday until the weekend. Due to the air temperatures being around seasonal norms, especially in the inner and eastern regions, that is, in places above 800-850 meters in altitude, we may experience icing and frost, along with fog and haze during the night and early morning hours. Therefore, drivers, in particular, need to be cautious and careful.
