The 17-day resistance that workers brought to Ankara from the mines within the SSS Holding ended with the first installment of their receivables being deposited into their accounts. While the Independent Mining Workers' Union decided to end the protest in front of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the miners celebrated with victory chants.
Workers employed at Doruk Maden and Eti Maden, affiliated with Yıldızlar SSS Holding, achieved results from the action they launched in Ankara demanding the payment of their wages, severance pay, and other rights.
FIRST INSTALLMENT DEPOSITED INTO ACCOUNTS, ACTION ENDED
After days of struggle, the first portion of the payments to be made against the workers' receivables was transferred to their accounts. The Independent Maden-İş Union also ended the action in Ankara after the payment. With the announcement of the decision, the miners celebrated the resistance concluding with a victory, chanting slogans such as "Victory belongs to the struggling worker."
PAYMENTS TO BE COMPLETED IN 42 DAYS
An agreement was reached to cover all of the workers' receivables in four installments over a 42-day period, rather than paying them all at once. Following the first payment, the remaining amounts are expected to be transferred to the workers in line with the scheduled timeline.
The amounts owed to the workers vary from person to person. In addition to wages and severance pay, unused leave, other personal rights, and employment termination circumstances cause the total amount to differ.
RESISTANCE CONTINUED DESPITE POLICE INTERVENTIONS
The miners, who started the action due to non-payment of their receivables, had moved their resistance to Ankara and begun a vigil in front of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. During the 17-day protests, the workers occasionally faced police intervention and later held negotiations with employer representatives. Following the talks, an agreement was reached to initiate the payment process.
UNION EMPHASIZES DETAINED LEADERS
After the first installments were deposited, Mürsel Ünder, the lawyer for the Independent Maden-İş Union, who made a statement on behalf of the union, said that the detained Union General President Gökay Çakır and Organization Specialist Başaran Aksu also had a role in concluding the resistance.
He emphasized that making the first payment after the workers' prolonged struggle was a significant achievement.
