Turkey-France relations have been strained due to the terrorist organization PKK/YPG in Syria. This time, a reaction came from Ankara to France, which has consistently supported PKK/YPG. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan openly challenged France, stating that their main interlocutor is America.
"IF THEY CAN DEPLOY MILITARY FORCE, LET'S SEE"
During a meeting with representatives of national and international media organizations based in Turkey, Minister Fidan stated, "I do not think that the policies developed by some small countries in Europe, which participate in certain operations under America's umbrella and then try to speak from there, contribute to either themselves or the region. If they can come to the region and deploy military force where America is not present, let's see. We know that this is not the case. We do not take into account countries that speak about advancing their own interests by hiding behind America's power. Our interlocutor in this matter is America. We are talking to America, not to the countries that follow behind."
"IF THEY HAVE SOMETHING TO DO..."
Continuing his criticisms of France's stance, Minister Fidan said, "If France has something to do, it is to take the people it defines as its citizens by the constitution from prisons and bring them to its own country, put them in its own prison, and try them in its own courts. It is not to provide prison services to YPG and then say, 'I will support him.' You do not accept your own ISIS detainees. You express supporting another organization that keeps them in prison with a different policy. This has nothing to do with reality or seriousness."
WILL THERE BE A CONFLICT BETWEEN ISRAEL AND TURKEY?
In response to a question about whether there is a possibility of direct conflict between Turkey and Israel due to Israel's expansionist policies in southern Syria, Minister Fidan said: "Israel's expansionist and conflict-oriented policies in the region have become a problem not only for regional countries but also for the international community and international justice. This problem is not solely Turkey's issue. We will face and overcome the global and regional problems posed by Israel together with our regional allies and global actors."
