Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum announced that 80,000 residences in the 500,000 social housing project have been completed, and that the remaining ones will be finished by 2028. Stating that the 15,000 rental housing project in Istanbul will also be completed by the end of 2028, Kurum announced that the lottery draw and key handover for the first 1,071 completed residences will take place in December.

Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum made statements about social housing projects, the rental housing application and urban transformation works on the program he attended on TRT Haber.

"WE WILL COMPLETE THE REMAINING HOUSES IN THE 500 THOUSAND SOCIAL HOUSING PROJECT BY 2028"

Touching on the efforts carried out so that low-income citizens in Türkiye can own a home, Kurum said that 1 million 800 thousand houses have been produced since 2002.

Noting that many countries in Europe are facing a housing shortage, Kurum stated that social housing production continues in Türkiye.

Also explaining the latest situation in the 500 thousand social housing project, Kurum used the following statements: "Our President announced the 500 thousand social houses. We have completed 80 thousand of them and brought them to the delivery stage. We are carrying out this with our TOKİ Presidency. We will, God willing, complete our remaining houses by 2028 and continue to keep our promises to our citizens as we have done to date."

HE GAVE A DATE FOR THE 15 THOUSAND RENTAL HOUSES IN ISTANBUL

Noting that there was intense demand in Istanbul for the "Half of It from Us" campaign, Kurum said that there were over 500 thousand applications. Touching also on the rental housing project, Kurum announced that the first phase of the 15 thousand houses planned to be built in Istanbul has been completed.

Kurum said, "On the other hand, along with the 500 thousand social houses, Mr. President also gave the good news that we will build 15 thousand rental houses in Istanbul for the first time, and within this scope we have completed 1,071 of our houses. Next month we will both draw the lottery and hand over the keys."

Also speaking about the rental prices and delivery schedule of the houses, Kurum used the following statements: "Our citizens can live in these houses at prices starting from 10 thousand lira. They made their applications, reviews were carried out, and next month we will draw their lotteries and place 1,071 citizens. We will also complete our other houses by the end of 2028 and place our citizens in this area."

WILL THE RENTAL HOUSING PROJECT BE EXPANDED TO OTHER PROVINCES?

Stating that the rental housing project was implemented in order to balance housing prices and lower rents, Kurum said that the application could also be launched in other provinces.

Kurum used the statements, "Why are we doing this? Frankly, we are doing it to balance housing prices and lower rent prices. This was an important will. We are doing it to be able to stand by our citizens in this sense as well."

Noting that requests have also come from other cities, Kurum said, "God willing, in the coming period Mr. President will share these good news with our nation."

"ISTANBUL'S RESILIENCE AGAINST EARTHQUAKES IS A MATTER OF NATIONAL SECURITY"

Also providing information about urban transformation works, Kurum announced that since 2013, 2 million 300 thousand houses have been transformed across Türkiye, and that approximately half of these are in Istanbul.

Drawing attention to the consequences of a major earthquake that could occur in Istanbul, Kurum used the following statements: "We always say that Istanbul's being resilient against earthquakes, being safe, is a matter of national security. That is, we raised 11 provinces to their feet. Our 86 million citizens became one, we went and joined hands with 11 provinces and raised them to their feet. But if, God forbid, an earthquake occurs in Istanbul, this will cost us our years, our decades, and become a matter of national security; in production, employment, in every field."

"HALF OF IT FROM US" CAMPAIGN EXTENDED UNTIL THE END OF 2027

Noting that transformation works are continuing within the scope of the "Half of It from Us" campaign in Istanbul's 39 districts, Kurum said that the number of transformed houses has reached 540 thousand.

Reminding that the campaign period was extended, Kurum said, "Our President again gave our citizens the good news that we have extended 'Half of It from Us' until 31 December 2027."

Calling out to citizens living in risky buildings, Kurum used the statements, "Come and apply to our campaign. Let us transform our houses with joint effort and make our Istanbul safe. We say let us leave a beautiful future for our young people and children."
