Minister Şimşek's tax statement: No increase in income, corporate and VAT rates is on our agenda in 2027

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek answered the question of whether the measure mentioned for retirees meant a tax increase. Şimşek said that an increase in income tax, corporate tax, and general VAT rates was not on the agenda in 2027. Speaking at the GNAT Plan and Budget Committee, Şimşek stated that the regulation for retirees would cover all retirees and that the final work would most likely be done in December.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek said, "We have no increase in the general rates of income tax, corporate tax, and value-added tax on our agenda in 2027."

Şimşek spoke at the Turkish Grand National Assembly's Planning and Budget Committee during budget deliberations for his Ministry's 2027 budget.

PENSION REGULATION WILL COVER ALL PENSIONERS

Stating in his speech that the work on pensioners has not yet been completed, Şimşek used the following statements:

"According to our assessments to date, the regulation to be made will cover all our pensioners. We believe it would be right for the increase to be differentiated according to our pensioners' age and number of premium payment days. Because this would be a fairer approach. Even if it is a flat-rate increase, this matter will be taken into account. Since the work has not yet been completed and it concerns not only the Ministry of Treasury and Finance but many relevant institutions and ministries, it would not be right for me to mention a figure at this stage. Because there may also be a precautionary aspect to the matter. An increase in transfers to the Social Security Institution has already caught your attention. However, I think the final work will most likely be done in December and will most likely be brought to your consideration right after the budget."

TAX RESPONSE TO THE MEASURE QUESTION

Following the meeting, in response to an Anadolu Agency reporter's question about "whether the measure mentioned meant a tax increase," Minister Şimşek made the following statement: "We have no increase in the general rates of income tax, corporate tax, and value-added tax on our agenda in 2027."
