The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, received a strong response from the Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, regarding his statement, "There is a fool at the head of the Ministry of National Education." Minister Tekin said, "Actually, I don't believe there is a situation that requires me to respond to Özgür Özel. Because Özgür Özel has ceased to be a character in my eyes."
The Minister of National Education, Yusuf Tekin, answered questions from the press after the "Turkish Education History Panel in the Light of Current Developments" held at the Çapa Science High School Conference Hall. Tekin responded to the remarks of CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who said, "There is a pickaxe at the head of the Ministry of National Education."
NATIONAL EDUCATION MINISTER TEKİN: ÖZGÜR ÖZEL HAS LOST HIS CHARACTER
Minister Tekin used harsh words. Tekin stated: "Actually, I don't believe there is a situation that requires a response to Özgür Özel. Because Özgür Özel has lost his character in my eyes. He is someone whose statements are unclear, who has no principles, and who lacks consistency between what he says today and what he says tomorrow. I do not want to respond to him.
I will say something about him now, but the main thing that needs to be addressed in this question is that we are truly saddened by the fact that the CHP, which we consider to be Atatürk's seat, has fallen into such situations.
"THERE IS NO ÖZGÜR ÖZEL PROFILE IN FRONT OF US"
Minister Tekin pointed out that a language is being used that truly harms a political party that has an important place in the democracy and republic of this country, like the CHP, and stated that he does not know how to respond to Özel politically. "There is no Özgür Özel profile in front of us. I mean, he is not drawing a stable political profile that we know his political thoughts and line, and that is persistent in that line," said Tekin, responding to a question about the "city consensus" that has come to the agenda before the local elections on March 31, 2024.
Tekin noted that the CHP has nominated some individuals who are alleged to be connected to terrorism or are suspected of such connections from their lists, and added: "However, now a process called 'Terror-Free Turkey' has been initiated. This time, they started to use sentences with 'but' and 'however' like children whose toys have been taken away. How will we explain this, how will we make sense of it? Where will we place this? Or it was said that 'A few months ago, we should soften the political language, we should normalize it.'
"NOT SOMEONE TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY FROM MY PERSPECTIVE"
But now, he can call a president who has been elected by the people's vote and has succeeded in all elections a coup plotter. Which Özgür Özel are we going to talk about or which Özgür Özel will be taken seriously? From my perspective, he is not someone to be taken seriously. But the serious position to be taken seriously is the CHP Chairmanship. Therefore, it is a tragicomic situation for Turkish democracy and political life that the CHP Chairmanship makes these statements and uses such an inconsistent language."
WHAT DID ÖZGÜR ÖZEL SAY?
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel had said the following regarding the students who were detained and arrested during protests against İmamoğlu's arrest: "I have not seen a young person carrying an axe. But I see an incompetent, untalented, and malicious person at the head of this country as the Minister of National Education. A person should have a little bit of shame. You will imprison the most successful children of Turkey and then say they have an axe in their hands. They do not have an axe, but there is a pickaxe at the head of the Ministry of National Education!"
