The "extra charge for ice-free drinks" practice, which sparked major backlash on social media, prompted the Ministry of Trade to take action. After it was revealed that a business in Antalya demanded an additional 20 lira from customers who did not want ice in their beverages, inspection teams launched an investigation. The Ministry stated that necessary actions will be taken against practices violating consumer rights.
A controversy has erupted after a business operating in a shopping mall in the Alanya district of Antalya demanded an additional 20 lira from customers who declined ice. Following the practice that became a trend on social media, the Ministry of Trade launched an investigation.
"MORE PRODUCT IS USED" DEFENSE
The business stated that when ice is not used, more product is required to fill the volume of the drink, and they implemented the price difference based on this justification. However, the business's defense caused a reaction among consumers.
INSPECTION TEAMS WENT TO THE BUSINESS
After complaints from citizens, teams from the Ministry of Trade took action. It was reported that the Antalya Provincial Trade Directorate conducted an inspection at the business in coordination with district municipal police teams.
MINISTRY: ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESS INITIATED
Bekir Kaplan, Press Advisor of the Ministry of Trade, announced in a statement on his social media account that the necessary examinations regarding the business had been conducted.
In his statement, Kaplan said that following notifications from citizens, an inspection was carried out on June 2, 2026, an administrative process was initiated regarding the identified issues, and necessary actions would be taken within the framework of legislation.
Kaplan stated in his announcement, "Upon notifications and complaints from our citizens; on June 2, 2026, at the business operating in Alanyum AVM in our province of Antalya, necessary inspections were carried out by our Antalya Provincial Directorate in coordination with district municipal police teams, an administrative process was initiated regarding the identified issues, and necessary procedures were established within the framework of legislation.
