The images of Ömer Eşki, the CHP mayor of Bornova, who hired the girlfriend of Uşak Mayor Özkan Yalım, mocking Sultan Abdulhamid have resurfaced. The footage includes moments where he laughs while stating that the opening of Abide-i Hürriyet Square took place on April 27, the day Sultan Abdulhamid was deposed.
The suspended Mayor of Uşak, Özkan Yalım, was detained and arrested on March 27 as part of a bribery and corruption operation. Following his arrest, it was revealed that Yalım had relationships with young women, and it was found that one of his girlfriends was receiving a salary from Bornova Municipality without working. Bornova Mayor Eşki also admitted that he had given a position to Yalım's girlfriend, Aslıhan Aksoy, at Yalım's request.
REACTIONS TO EŞKİ ARE MOUNTING
After it was revealed that Aksoy had been on the municipal payroll for 5 months and 8 days, Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki described the incident as "an isolated mistake" and apologized. The backlash against Eşki, who stated that he would return the earnings Aksoy had gained during that time to the municipal treasury, grew significantly.
EŞKİ: I WILL PERSONALLY COVER ALL PUBLIC LOSSES
Eşki stated that Aslıhan Aksoy had worked at Bornova Municipality for 5 months and 8 days, and he would personally cover all public losses incurred during that period.
