VEHICLES PILED ON TOP OF EACH OTHER The heavy rain that affected Istanbul in recent days negatively affected life. In Sarıyer Ayazağa Neighborhood, many workplaces had been flooded. As vehicles piled up and drifted with the flood, some vehicles were also stranded in the water.
New footage of the disaster has emerged. In the footage, vehicles were seen drifting and piling on top of each other in the floodwaters. It included moments when the citizen was dragged away while trying to save his vehicle.
"IT CANNOT BE DESCRIBED" Murat Bayraktar, a citizen who clung to his car to save it, said, "It cannot be described; it was a very bad thing to experience. When that water started coming, at first we said let's pull the car, at least so it goes into the water, thinking it would come a little. The water came suddenly; I saw it was going to take me too, so I threw myself onto the upper hood of the car. I held on from there and got to the base of the pole. From here, at the base of the pole, I'm trying to hold the car; if I let go, it will take me away. Like this, it pulls and throws me back. I barely held onto the pole; I struggled quite a bit. After that, that distance in between remained. From there, below, I then tried to throw myself; there is a thick cable. I held onto the thick cable and came like this, climbed toward here. Behind here there is a coal shed; I stayed on top of the coal shed for 1, 1.5 hours. Phones don't have signal anyway. I'm in water up to my throat. After that I stayed on top of that coal for 1, 1.5 hours. In the following period, since the vehicles here were pulled out completely, I found a plank there. I extended it over the cars and barely threw myself across from there," he said.
