The powerful interpreter of Turkish Art Music, Muazzez Abacı, carried a tumultuous life behind her stage grandeur. The master artist, who achieved great success in her career, fought a silent battle for years with her daughter Saba, whom she raised away from the public eye. After passing away on her 78th birthday following a heart attack in the United States, Abacı left behind a career that left deep marks in the art world, as well as a life story worthy of a film.
Last October, Abacı, who underwent angioplasty and stent treatment due to heart problems, passed away, as announced by her manager Taner Budak.
Budak stated on his social media account regarding the artist's death, "With great sadness, we lost our artist Muazzez Abacı on her 78th birthday. She will always be remembered for her love, smiling face, and beautiful heart." The artist, whose full name is Hicran Muazzez Abacı, was born on November 12, 1947, in Ankara. She broke sales records with her album "Vurgun," released in 1990.
GOT THE TITLE OF STATE ARTIST
Abacı, who appeared in many television programs and gave hundreds of concerts, was awarded the title of State Artist by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1998. She was one of the names that helped popularize classical and polyphonic Turkish music and portrayed herself in the series "Sibel" in 1998.
RAISED HER DAUGHTER AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC EYE
Muazzez Abacı's life was often in the spotlight not only for her stage successes but also for her tumultuous private life. The artist, who married police officer Abdurrahman Abacı at the age of 18, gave birth to her only daughter, Dr. Saba Abacı, who now lives in the USA. Her first marriage ended in 1970.
Abacı then married lawyer Atilla Kurtbaş in 1973, but this marriage also lasted only two years.
LIVED IN AKŞEHİR FOR A SHORT TIME
The artist's most talked-about relationship was her marriage to the notorious Hasan Heybetli, who was in prison in 1980. Due to this relationship, Abacı had to live in Akşehir for a while. Although this relationship lasted three years, the couple remarried in 1989; however, they separated again in 1993. Heybetli's visit to Abacı's door with a cannonball in 2006 sparked rumors about a third marriage, but this did not happen.
STRUGGLE FOR LIFE IN THE USA
The master artist suffered a heart attack on October 30 while visiting her daughter Saba in the USA. Abacı was hospitalized and placed in intensive care, where her condition worsened. Despite all interventions, the famous artist passed away on November 12, the very day she would have turned 78.
