Iran's new religious leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, made the anticipated statement on February 28 regarding his predecessor and father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in an airstrike carried out by the US and Israel. Breaking his silence after the funeral ceremonies completed months later, the new leader issued an explicit "revenge" message against the US and Israel, whom he holds responsible for his father's death.
Following the death of Iran's former leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Mojtaba Khamenei, who assumed the religious leadership position, shared a written statement on his official Telegram account on Saturday. This statement, timed to coincide with the conclusion of his father's funeral ceremonies held months later, contained harsh rhetoric poised to escalate tensions.
PLEDGED VENGEANCE
In the message published by Mojtaba Khamenei, he stated: "I am addressing our martyred leader: We promise you that we will avenge your pure blood and the blood of all our brothers martyred in these two wars from these guilty and despicable murderers. This vengeance is the common demand of our nation and will certainly be carried out. Let these criminals, whose names are known from top to bottom, not think they will die peacefully in their beds. Let them know well that this cause does not depend on my presence or that of any other official. Whether we are here or not, this will happen. Soon, freedom-loving people around the world will fulfill every part of this divine duty."
HIS FATHER WAS BURIED IN MASHHAD ON FRIDAY
Iran's Religious Leader Khamenei, killed in a US and Israeli attack, was buried at the Imam Reza Shrine in Mashhad. While death slogans against Trump were chanted at the funeral, it was noted that Mojtaba Khamenei, who was seriously wounded in the attack and declared the new leader, was not present at the funeral.
