In the armed conflict incident that occurred in Eskişehir, Specialist Gendarmerie Eighth Grade Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş, a father of two daughters, was martyred. While the attacker also lost his life in the incident, a gendarmerie personnel and the neighborhood headman were injured.
Specialist Gendarmerie Eighth Grade Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş, who was responding to a report of an armed conflict in Eskişehir, was martyred. It was learned that Demirbaş had been serving in Eskişehir since 2017 and was the father of two daughters.
The incident occurred in the Narlı neighborhood of the Mihalıççık district. According to the information obtained, gendarmerie teams were dispatched to the region following a report that İbrahim Günsel, who was claimed to be mentally unstable, was firing a rifle into the surroundings. After the teams arrived at the scene, an armed clash broke out between the suspect and security forces.
FATHER OF TWO DAUGHTERS, GENDARMERIE MARTYRED
Specialist Gendarmerie Eighth Grade Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş, married and father of two children, who was seriously wounded in the incident, was martyred at the Mihalıççık State Hospital where he was taken.
It was learned that Demirbaş had been stationed in Eskişehir since 2017. In the clash, İbrahim Günsel, who was alleged to have opened fire, also lost his life at the scene. During the incident, one gendarmerie personnel and the headman of Narlı neighborhood, Mutlu Şahin, were injured. It was reported that the injured gendarmerie personnel and the neighborhood headman, who were taken to the hospital, are continuing their treatment.
After the incident, extensive security measures were taken in the area, and a broad investigation was launched under the coordination of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
STATEMENT FROM MINISTER ÇİFTÇİ
Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi made a statement regarding the incident on his official social media account. In Minister Çiftçi's statement, the following expressions were included: 'Specialist Gendarmerie Eighth Grade Sergeant Mehmet Demirbaş, serving under the Eskişehir Provincial Gendarmerie Command, was injured while intervening in an incident and could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital, becoming a martyr. I wish God's mercy upon our martyr, and condolences to his grieving family, our Heroic Gendarmerie organization, and our Nation. May our martyr's station be exalted.'
It was learned that the martyred gendarmerie personnel will be sent off on his final journey in the Terme district of Samsun tomorrow.
