Hundreds of workers employed in the municipalities of Buca and Karabağlar in İzmir are staging a strike due to not receiving regular salaries and the non-payment of their accumulated debts. On the third day of the protest, piles of garbage and unpleasant odors have emerged on some streets of the districts.
The work stoppage initiated by workers in the municipalities of Buca and Karabağlar, who have not been receiving regular salaries and whose accumulated receivables have not been paid, continues.
TRASH PILES HAVE FORMED IN THE STREETS
1,763 workers employed by the Buca Municipality have been on strike since June 18 due to not receiving regular salaries and their accumulated receivables not being paid. On the third day of the strike, trash piles and bad odors have formed in some streets of Buca due to the work stoppage of the cleaning service workers. The residents of Buca are expressing their reactions to this situation.
"WE WILL CONTINUE OUR ACTIONS UNTIL WE RECEIVE A GUARANTEE OF REGULAR SALARIES"
Ayça Pektaş, one of the workers who made a statement regarding the work stoppage, said that the strike, which started three days ago, continues with wide participation. She mentioned that they had a meeting with the mayor yesterday and shared their problems. Pektaş expressed that they are waiting for steps to be taken for a solution. Emphasizing that the workers are experiencing serious grievances due to their accumulated receivables, Pektaş stated, "We will continue our actions until we receive a guarantee that our accumulated receivables and future salaries will be paid regularly and in full."
900 WORKERS IN KARABAĞLAR ALSO PROTESTED
On the other hand, 900 workers employed by the Karabağlar Municipality also went on a half-day strike today due to their receivables not being paid.
