Geoscientist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, at an event he attended, stated that the East Anatolian Fault is a plate boundary, saying, "You don't need to be a prophet for this; if you are building on a plate boundary and not taking the necessary precautions, you cannot escape the damage."

Geologist Prof. Dr. Naci Görür stated that those close to the plate boundary will suffer more damage, saying, "You don't need to be a prophet for this; if you go and build a house there and do not take the necessary precautions, you cannot escape this damage."

Görür participated in the program "Gaziantep Seismicity and Earthquake-Resistant Gaziantep," organized in collaboration with the Şehitkamil Municipality and the Şehitkamil City Council, on the second anniversary of the February 6 earthquakes.

"THIS IS THE EARTHQUAKE MECHANISM"

Providing information about the formation stages of earthquakes and the impact of the February 6 earthquakes on Gaziantep, Görür stated that the East Anatolian Fault is a plate boundary. He explained, "There are two plates there, one is the Arabian plate and the other is the Anatolian plate. There is also the African plate, and the boundary in between is the East Anatolian Fault. This is the earthquake mechanism."

WARNED BY SAYING 'NO NEED TO BE A PROPHET'

Expressing that those close to the plate boundary will suffer more damage, Görür said, "You don't need to be a prophet for this; if you go and build a house there and do not take the necessary precautions, you cannot escape this damage. Gaziantep is not on the plate boundary, but it is close to it. That proximity exposes you to disaster to a certain extent. I am sure that Gaziantep's impact from the February 6 earthquakes is much less than that of other provinces. Other provinces like Kahramanmaraş, Hatay, Malatya... Why are they right in the middle of the boundary while you are on the edge? There is a distance of 50-100 kilometers in between. You are also affected by this."
