Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu complained to US President Donald Trump about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. It was reported that during a phone call with Trump, Netanyahu brought up President Erdoğan's statements regarding Israel and emphasized the need to protect the so-called "security zones" along its borders.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump.
According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Trump informed Netanyahu during the call about US military activities against Iran in the Gulf region.
COMPLAINED ABOUT PRESIDENT ERDOĞAN
The statement noted that Netanyahu raised President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's remarks against Israel. It was also stated that Netanyahu emphasized the necessity of maintaining so-called "security zones" along Israel's borders.
The statement said, "Prime Minister (Netanyahu) emphasized the seriousness of the statements made by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his partners against Israel's existence and the need for security zones along Israel's borders."
IMPLICIT 'F-35' REACTION TO TRUMP
Meanwhile, speaking at an Israeli military graduation ceremony, Netanyahu implicitly reacted to Trump's positive remarks regarding Turkey's access to F-35 fighter jets without directly naming him, saying, "Maintaining Israel's air superiority is a cornerstone of our national security doctrine."
Arguing that geopolitical balances in the Middle East are rapidly changing, Netanyahu stated, "The war is not over yet. Alongside old challenges, new ones continue to emerge. Old axes are collapsing and new ones are being born. We are prepared for every scenario. We know we must always remain stronger than our enemies."
HAD FREQUENTLY MENTIONED TURKEY DURING NATO SUMMIT
Netanyahu had given interviews to US media before and during the NATO summit in Ankara, calling for Turkey not to be allowed access to the F-35s.
Shortly after signals from US President Trump that Turkey could return to the F-35 program, Israeli politicians, led by Netanyahu, expressed their opposition to this.
