The Istanbul Governorship announced that the ban on all forms of gatherings, demonstrations, and press statements across the city has been extended until March 27. Additionally, restrictions have been imposed on the entry and exit of individuals, groups, and vehicles that are likely to participate in unlawful activities.
The ban on meetings, demonstrations, and press statements in Istanbul has been extended for another 4 days.
THE ACTION BAN HAS BEEN EXTENDED
In a statement from the Istanbul Governorship, it was reminded that with a previously made decision, all kinds of gatherings, demonstrations, and press statements were banned throughout the city for 4 days from March 19 to 23. The statement noted: "Therefore, in order to prevent actions that constitute a crime, ensure national security, protect fundamental rights and freedoms as well as the rights and freedoms of others, maintain public order and security, and establish general peace, indoor and outdoor meetings and demonstrations, tent setups, opening stands, sit-ins, signature campaigns, memorial ceremonies, and similar types of actions and events, as well as the distribution of flyers, and the hanging of banners and posters, have been decided to be banned for 4 days from March 23 at 00:01 to March 26 at 23:59, in accordance with the a, b, and c clauses of Article 11 of the Law on Provincial Administration No. 5442 and Articles 17 and 19 of the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations No. 2911."
ENTRY AND EXIT TO ISTANBUL OF 'POTENTIAL PARTICIPANTS IN ACTIONS' HAS BEEN PROHIBITED
The statement said, "Individuals, groups, and vehicles that are likely to participate in unlawful actions using the route of our province from the districts of our province or surrounding provinces will not be allowed to enter or exit our province."
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
An investigation was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu and 99 suspects for the crimes of "being a leader of a criminal organization," "being a member of a criminal organization," "bribery," "qualified fraud," "illegally obtaining personal data," and "interfering with a tender." İmamoğlu was detained within the scope of these investigations. After the detention decision, numerous protests were held in many cities, and tense moments occurred between the police and demonstrators at times.
