New Party Deputy Melih Meric, injured in a knife attack in Gaziantep, was brought to Istanbul by a private ambulance plane from Gaziantep City Hospital where he was receiving treatment. Meric was intubated and taken to intensive care here.

New Party Gaziantep Deputy Melih Meriç, (57), who was attacked with a knife in Gaziantep, was transferred to Istanbul by ambulance plane at the request of his family.

Meriç, who was attacked with a knife on August 18 in the Akkent neighborhood of the central Şahinbey district, was taken to the ward after surgery at Gaziantep City Hospital. It was decided that Meriç, whose condition is stable, would continue his treatment at a private hospital in Istanbul at the request of his relatives.

New Party Gaziantep Deputy Melih Meriç was attacked with a knife on August 18 in the Akkent neighborhood of the central Şahinbey district and was taken into surgery at the hospital he was brought to. Within the scope of the investigation, 5 suspects were detained. Among them, Seydi Ahmet Keleş and his son Hakan Keleş were arrested by the criminal court of peace, while the other 3 suspects were released under judicial control.

Seydi Ahmet Keleş, who injured the deputy with a knife, stated in his statement to the police that he had argued with Meriç regarding the appointment to the New Party Oğuzeli District Presidency.
