The Ministry of Health has made it mandatory for hospitals to procure PRP and hyaluronic acid products used in joint treatment. With the new regulation, patients are prohibited from purchasing these products externally, and it has been stated that administrative action and legal proceedings will be initiated against healthcare personnel who do not comply with the rule. Additionally, the products will be delivered to hospitals through the State Supply Office's Health Market system.
The General Directorate of Public Hospitals of the Ministry of Health made significant changes to the procurement process of certain medical consumables used in hospitals with a circular dated July 21. According to the new regulation, Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) and intra-articular injection products containing hyaluronic acid, used especially in the treatment of joint disorders, can no longer be prescribed to patients to be purchased externally.
PRODUCTS WILL BE PROCURED BY HOSPITALS
Within the scope of the cooperation protocol signed between the Ministry and the State Supply Office (DMO), these products will be procured by hospitals through the "Health Market" system.
After the products of applying companies are examined by the General Directorate of Public Hospitals and the Scientific Evaluation Commission, those found suitable will be added to the catalog and opened for direct ordering by healthcare institutions.
STOCK WARNING TO HOSPITALS
The circular instructed hospital administrations to procure products with correct barcodes and to plan stocks carefully. It was also emphasized that healthcare institutions should not create surplus or duplicate orders.
TARIFF WILL BE APPLIED FOR TREATMENTS NOT COVERED BY SGK
For products and treatments not covered by the Social Security Institution (SGK) within the scope of the Health Implementation Statement (SUT), the Public Health Services Price Tariff (KSHFT) will be taken as the basis.
In this context, for procedures not covered by general health insurance or not paid by SGK, hospitals will charge fees according to the determined official tariff.
STRICT WARNING FROM THE MINISTRY TO STAFF
The final section of the circular also included a notable warning for healthcare personnel.
While it was stated that PRP and hyaluronic acid products to be used in intra-articular injections must not be prescribed to patients to be procured externally, it was announced that administrative action would be initiated and necessary legal processes would be carried out against personnel or units acting contrary to this rule.
With this implementation, the Ministry aims both to prevent victimization of patients and to ensure standard practice in the medical product procurement process.
