In Iğdır, known as the Çukurova of the East, the apricot trees have bloomed with the arrival of spring. This year, a harvest of 40 thousand tons is expected from the apricot orchards that cover the Iğdır Plain in white.

With an annual production of 40 thousand tons of apricots, Iğdır, one of Turkey's important centers, has created a beautiful sight with its blooming apricot orchards.

At an altitude of 5,176 meters above sea level, Ağrı Mountain, referred to as 'the roof of Turkey', has its summit covered with glaciers throughout the year, and the apricot orchards in the Iğdır Plain, located at an elevation of about 800 meters, have turned white. The flowers blooming on the trees, which number between 350,000 and 400,000 in the orchards where apricots, which hold significant importance in the city's economy, are grown, offered a visual feast. The blooming of apricot trees in Iğdır, where beautiful images have emerged, has particularly delighted the producers.

HIGH YIELD EXPECTED

Iğdır Agricultural Chamber President Tugay Bağrı stated that the orchards in the city were not affected by the frost disaster that was effective last year due to the geographical structure, and said that nearly 40 thousand tons of apricots were obtained. Bağrı noted that the blooming of the trees is a sign of a fruitful season for the producers, stating, "The fact that apricots have not been exposed to frost so far and the flowering is good indicates that the yield will be high. We have the world-famous 'şalak', also known as 'yellow gold', as table apricots. We want farmers to pay attention to issues such as irrigation, pruning, fertilization, and pest control for quality production of these apricots we export. Because we are competing with Armenian products in the world market for apricot exports. Of course, our apricots are of higher quality, but our producers should be more careful in terms of care and cultivation," he said.

TARGET EUROPEAN MARKET

Stating that apricots are of great importance for the Iğdır economy, Iğdır Chamber of Commerce and Industry Young Entrepreneurs Council President Uğur Artantaş said, "We achieve an annual yield of 40 thousand tons of apricots. We export to regional countries such as Russia and Ukraine. We want the apricot, which has a very high value for the Iğdır economy, to now open up to the European market. Europe has not yet met Iğdır apricots," he said.
