The objection to the detention of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who was arrested as part of the investigation into Gülistan Doku, who has been missing in Tunceli since 2020, was rejected by the court.
A striking development has occurred in the investigation into the disappearance of university student Gülistan Doku, who went missing in Tunceli in 2020. The objection to the detention of former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel, who was arrested as part of the investigation, was rejected by the court.
COURT FOUND THE OBJECTION UNFOUNDED
Sonel's lawyer objected to his client's detention and requested his release. However, the criminal court of first instance that evaluated the application found the objection unfounded and rejected it. Thus, it was decided to continue Sonel's detention.
INVESTIGATION IS BEING CONDUCTED IN ERZURUM
The case was handled under Article 161/6 of the Criminal Procedure Code. According to this article, the authority to investigate the personal crimes of governors related to their tenure belongs to the chief public prosecutor's office located in the area of the relevant regional court of appeal. Therefore, the investigation is being conducted by the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
DETENTION AND ARREST PROCESS
An investigation was launched against Sonel, who was the Tunceli Governor at the time of Gülistan's disappearance, and he was removed from duty on April 17. Sonel, who was taken into custody in Elazığ, was then taken to Erzurum. After completing police procedures, he was referred to the courthouse and was arrested by the court on April 21.
