Starting from midweek, Turkey will be affected by a cold wave entering from the west and 'kırkikindi' showers. While sunny days are giving way to sudden temperature drops and thunderstorms, a cool and rainy weather is expected across the country over the weekend. Experts warn against the risk of floods, waterlogging, and lightning.
The cold weather wave expected to take effect from midweek will radically change weather conditions across Turkey. The sunny weather that has been dominant for days will give way to an overcast sky, with a noticeable drop in temperatures. According to meteorological data, thunderstorms will be effective in many regions.
"AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS" BEGIN
The precipitation known colloquially as "afternoon thunderstorms" is re-emerging especially in the Central and Eastern Anatolia regions. These rains, which intensify after midday, can quickly become severe, bringing risks of flash floods and waterlogging. Experts emphasize that citizens who will be outdoors in the second half of the day should be cautious.
WEST SUNNY, EAST RAINY
Tomorrow, partly cloudy weather is expected in the western and southern regions, while rainfall will continue in the eastern parts. A calmer weather is expected in Istanbul and Izmir, while rain will persist throughout the day in Ankara, as well as in Central Anatolia and Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.
RAINFALL TO PEAK OVER THE WEEKEND
The rainy system that will affect the entire country as of Friday will reach its most intense level on Saturday. With the sky becoming completely overcast, temperatures will drop rapidly and cool weather will intensify. Citizens planning for the weekend are advised to review their programs by taking weather conditions into account.
SHARP TEMPERATURE DROPS IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA
In Istanbul, temperatures are expected to drop to 11 degrees over the weekend, with heavy rainfall becoming effective. In Ankara, local rains starting today will turn into continuous rain by Friday, accompanied by temperatures dropping to 13 degrees.
In Izmir, which started the week with high temperatures, weather conditions will also change rapidly. As of Thursday, temperatures will drop to 21 degrees with the rainy system arriving from the Aegean. Towards the weekend, the city will experience heavy rain and cool weather.
CRITICAL WARNING FROM EXPERTS
Authorities urge citizens to take precautions against the risk of floods, waterlogging, and lightning that may be caused by sudden downpours. The rains, expected to be short-lived but effective, could negatively affect daily life, especially in the afternoon hours.
