Turkey is coming under the influence of a cold wave entering from the west starting midweek, along with 'kırkikindi' precipitation. As sunny days give way to sudden temperature drops and thunderstorms, cool and rainy weather is expected nationwide over the weekend. Experts warn of risks of flooding, waterlogging, and lightning.
The cold weather wave expected to take effect from midweek will radically change weather conditions across Turkey. After days of sunny weather, the sky will become overcast and temperatures will drop significantly. According to meteorological data, thunderstorms will be effective in many regions.
"KIRKIKINDI" RAINS BEGIN
Known among the public as "kirkikindi" rains, these showers will reappear, especially in the Central and Eastern Anatolia regions. Intensifying after noon, these rains can quickly become severe, bringing the risk of flash floods and waterlogging. Experts emphasize that citizens who will be outdoors in the second half of the day should be cautious.
WEST SUNNY, EAST RAINY
While partly cloudy weather is expected in western and southern regions tomorrow, showers will persist in eastern areas. Calmer weather is expected in Istanbul and Izmir, while rain will continue throughout the day in Ankara, Central Anatolia, and Eastern and Southeastern Anatolia.
RAIN TO PEAK ON THE WEEKEND
The rainy system affecting the country starting Friday will reach its most intense level on Saturday. With the sky completely closing in, temperatures will drop rapidly and the cool air will intensify. Citizens making weekend plans are advised to review their schedules considering the weather conditions.
SHARP TEMPERATURE DROP IN ISTANBUL AND ANKARA
In Istanbul, temperatures are expected to drop to 11 degrees on the weekend, with showers expected. In Ankara, local rains starting today will turn into rain lasting all day on Friday, with temperatures falling to 13 degrees.
After starting the week with high temperatures, weather conditions in Izmir will also change rapidly. Starting Thursday, with a rainy system coming from the Aegean, temperatures will drop to 21 degrees. Showers and cool weather will be effective in the city towards the weekend.
CRITICAL WARNING FROM EXPERTS
Authorities urge citizens to be cautious against the risk of floods, waterlogging, and lightning caused by sudden heavy downpours. The short-lived but intense rains are expected to negatively affect life, especially in the afternoon hours.
