Fatma, who was 2 months old when she was rescued from the rubble during the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, and was taken to Ankara for treatment on a plane belonging to the Presidency, has turned 2 years old. Due to her unknown name at the time, "Rubble Baby" was written on her forehead.
Ahmet and Nadya Abid, a couple who fled the civil war in Syria and settled in Kahramanmaraş, were caught in the earthquake with their 2-month-old daughter Fatma in their home in the Hayrullah neighborhood of the central Dulkadiroğlu district. The couple lost their lives under the collapsed building. Fatma, who was 2 months old at the time, was rescued alive from the rubble by neighbors and taken to the hospital.
HER FOREHEAD WAS MARKED 'DEBRIS BABY'
Since her family could not be reached, Fatma was placed under state protection. While being transported to Ankara for treatment on a plane belonging to the Presidency, nurses wrote "Debris baby" on her forehead because her name was unknown.
GROWING UP WITH HER COUSIN
Little Fatma, who is one of the symbols of the pain left by the earthquake and has just turned two, has been taken care of by her uncle Muhammed Abid. Little Fatma, who is holding on to life again, spends her days playing with her cousins.
Uncle Abid told AA reporter that he was working in a factory at the time of the earthquake and that his brother and sister-in-law were rescued from the rubble two days later.
A LEGACY LEFT BY THEM
Abid stated that he received his niece in Ankara after the official procedures were completed, and then went to Şanlıurfa to stay with a relative, and after staying there for a while, he returned to Kahramanmaraş. Abid noted that his deceased brother's wife was also his sister-in-law and expressed that Fatma is a legacy left by them.
"FATMA IS OUR RED LINE"
Abid, who expressed that he loves Fatma very much and does not distinguish her from his own children, said:
"Fatma is like my own child. My eldest son says, 'She is my sister, we will not give her to anyone, she will stay with us.' Fatma is our red line, in fact, we have two red lines. Thank God. No one will approach her, no one will upset her, she will always be happy, inshallah. Fatma already plays a lot with our children. She has completely adapted. We will not give her to anyone; she will live with us, inshallah. Besides Fatma, I have two sons and one daughter; I do not distinguish any of them from each other. I have three children, and with Fatma, it became four; we will never be separated, inshallah."
