In the Tarsus district of Mersin, 9-year-old Mazin Halaf, one of two siblings who fell into an irrigation canal, drowned. It was learned that 6-year-old Y.H., who was pulled from the water by citizens and taken to the hospital, is in critical condition.
One of two siblings who fell into an irrigation canal in the Tarsus district of Mersin lost their life, while the other was hospitalized in serious condition.
The incident occurred in the Kavaklı neighborhood of the Tarsus district. According to the information obtained, Mazin Halaf and his sibling Y.H., who were walking around the irrigation canal belonging to the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), lost their balance and fell into the water for an undetermined reason.

Citizens in the vicinity who saw the two siblings fall into the water quickly intervened. Y.H., one of the siblings who was bobbing in the water, was pulled out of the canal by the citizens. Upon the notification, health and police teams were dispatched to the area. Y.H., who received first aid at the scene, was taken to the hospital by ambulance and admitted to the intensive care unit. It was learned that the young child's life-threatening condition continues.
LIFELESS BODY FOUND 300 METERS AHEAD
For the other sibling, Mazin Halaf, who disappeared in the water, a search and rescue operation was initiated by police divers affiliated with the Provincial Police Department. Teams searching the canal found the unfortunate child's lifeless body approximately 300 meters ahead of where he fell.
Mazin Halaf's body, removed from the water, was taken to the Mersin Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for an autopsy following the examinations at the scene. The investigation launched into the incident continues.
