In Zonguldak's Devrek Municipality, 8 suspects, including former Mayor Çetin Bozkurt, were detained on the allegations of 'irregularities in worker payments, embezzlement, and bribery to manipulate the tender.'
INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED INTO TENDER MANIPULATION
Last year, an investigation was initiated by the Inspection Board of the Ministry of Interior regarding the allegations of overpayment of worker wages, which were later reclaimed on the grounds of a mistake, the embezzlement of worker severance payments calculated excessively and reclaimed by stating 'a mistake was made,' and bribery to manipulate the tender. Following the Inspection Board's complaint to the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding these allegations, a judicial investigation was also launched.
8 SUSPECTS DETAINED
This morning, teams from the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Unit conducted simultaneous operations within the scope of the 'irregularities, embezzlement, and tender manipulation' investigation at the Devrek Municipality. The then Mayor Çetin Bozkurt, Deputy Mayor Recep Korun, Private Secretary Raif Kabasakal, Accounting and Financial Affairs Director Nafia Kabalaklı Çakır, Human Resources Director Tuncay Ulupınar, Purchasing staff Engin Kösekadem, Acting Financial Affairs Director İsmail Karademir, and collection unit staff Umut Karademir were detained.
The processing of the suspects at the police station is ongoing.
