The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, who said about President Erdoğan, "He doesn't know poetry, he's ignorant," misread the poem titled "Soldier's Prayer," which led to Erdoğan's imprisonment.
After visiting the CHP Ahmetli District Presidency in Manisa, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel addressed party members, stating that President Erdoğan misread Ziya Gökalp's poem titled 'Soldier's Prayer,' which he read in Siirt in 1997 and which led to his imprisonment.
HE HAD SAID "ERDOĞAN DOESN'T KNOW POETRY, IS IGNORANT"
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel responded to the criticisms directed at his party through President Erdoğan's slogan "There is no salvation alone, either we all together or none of us" with the words, "Bertolt Brecht's poem... The ignorant of Allah knows neither Brecht nor poetry. He knows neither art nor culture."
THE REACTION OF THE AK PARTY WAS SEVERE
Following Özel's remarks, AK Party Spokesperson Ömer Çelik made a statement saying, "To say that our President, who faces a political ban for reading poetry, 'doesn't know poetry' is a situation that can only be explained by Özgür Özel's own political ignorance. The language Özel used towards our President is an ugliness devoid of any political morality."
