Ten days after being arrested on December 5, 2009, as part of the FETÖ conspiracy investigation, Lieutenant Colonel Ali Tatar was released, but three days later, a new arrest warrant was issued against him. Following this, Tatar wrote a farewell letter and took his own life.

Today, a memorial ceremony was held for Tatar by the Ataşehir Municipality on the 15th anniversary of his death. The ceremony, held at the İnal Adımoğlu Cultural Center, was attended by CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, Tatar's family, and his loved ones.

CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, who attended the memorial program, gave a speech. Özgür Özel stated, "When the Soma case ended and the murderers served only 5.5 days in prison for each person they killed, and when the Supreme Court almost found the dead guilty rather than the killers, I had said it right there at the door. I say this on several occasions. I say it with great conviction. One of the greatest bonds in the world is the bond between criminals. Those who are connected through their crimes are condemned to each other. The relationship that the current government established with that FETÖ community that did this to Ali Tatar was like that. Now, the relationships that the partners of this government have established with each other, the relationships they have with mafia bosses, and the relationships they have with former FETÖ members who print money, are truly strong relationships with those who are involved in various evils around the world. Therefore, I don't expect much hope; they won't let each other go, they won't betray each other. Because they all know where this is going, like a thread unraveling," he expressed.

Özel also stated, "Fifteen years later, we stand in this hall with the same determination as we did 15 years ago, without shedding tears like we did 15 years ago, without struggling in pain like we did 15 years ago, but with the determination of 15 years ago, without losing the great zeal given by the great injustice we faced.
