The leader of the CHP, Özgür Özel, came to Istanbul from Ankara following the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu under two separate investigations. Özgür Özel and the accompanying delegation entered İmamoğlu's home.
Turkey woke up to the news of the detention of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu. Ekrem İmamoğlu was detained on charges of leading a criminal organization, money laundering, bribery, fraud, and rigging tenders, as well as allegedly aiding a terrorist organization within the framework of 'urban reconciliation' activities. İmamoğlu, whose home was searched by hundreds of police, was later taken for a health check. A detention order was issued for 106 people, including journalists and businesspeople.
ÖZEL WENT TO İMAMOĞLU'S HOUSE
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel also came to Istanbul from Ankara following İmamoğlu's detention. The vehicle carrying Özgür Özel and his companions entered İmamoğlu's house in Sarıyer.
"A COUP ATTEMPT AGAINST OUR NEXT PRESIDENT"
Özel reacted to İmamoğlu's detention with the following statements: "Using power to make decisions on behalf of the people, to override the will of the people, or to obstruct it is a coup. Right now, there is a power in place to prevent the people from determining the next president. We are facing a coup attempt against our next president... Our nation loves its state, but if the state stands against the nation by some people, the nation will not allow it. The real power is the nation, and in the end, the nation will win... It will be so again. We will not surrender. In the end, what the nation says will prevail, and Turkey will win." he said.
