In Istanbul, around 19:00 in the evening, a sudden downpour that intensified caused moments of terror in Sarıyer Ayazağa. Inside an İETT bus that was stranded in the middle of muddy floodwaters and began to be swept away, a desperate life-and-death scene unfolded.
PANIC MOMENTS ON A BUS FILLED WITH WATER
As floodwaters that turned the streets into rivers began to fill the bus, passengers experienced great panic. As the waters rose rapidly, stranded citizens fought to survive using their own means. Some passengers opened the emergency exit hatch on the roof of the bus, went outside, climbed onto the roof, and waited helplessly to be rescued amid floodwaters meters high.
"GET ON TOP OF THE SEATS!"
A great shouting match occurred between bystanders recording those moments second by second and those on the bus. It was seen that citizens outside tried to direct those inside the bus by saying, "Water is starting to fill, get on top of the seats and wait!"
While the terrified wait of passengers taking refuge on the roof of the bus was captured by cell phone cameras, the dangerous moments when other vehicles drifting in the floodwaters were about to hit the bus were recorded moment by moment.
