It has been claimed that the peace talks between the US and Iran, which were expected to resume this weekend in Switzerland, have been completely halted and suspended following mutual attacks in the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz stated that the US will continue to target Iran's military infrastructure if Tehran threatens international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

It has been claimed that the peace talks between the US and Iran have been "suspended."

REASON: MUTUAL ATTACKS

According to sources familiar with the matter who reported to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ), the US-Iran talks were put on hold following recent clashes in the Strait of Hormuz.

The report alleged that the attacks between the two countries led to "the suspension of talks that were expected to resume this weekend in Switzerland."

Referring to the memorandum of understanding signed by US President Donald Trump in early June, the report highlighted Iran's obligation to keep the Strait of Hormuz open for commercial vessels.

US PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE TO THE UN: WE WILL STRIKE IRAN AS LONG AS IT BLOCKS HORMUZ TRAFFIC

Meanwhile, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz, in an interview with Fox News, said that if Tehran threatens international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, the US will continue to target Iran's military infrastructure.

Speaking about the possibility of Iran resuming its nuclear enrichment activities, Waltz stated that not only the US but "the entire world" opposes this, and in such a scenario, President Donald Trump will keep all options on the table.

Waltz also noted that technical talks aimed at advancing the ceasefire process between the US and Iran are ongoing, adding that Trump "will always give diplomacy a chance" but "the President's patience will not last forever."

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Iranian and US administrations are mutually accusing each other of violating the reached agreement. In this context, Iran attacked a container ship and a tanker carrying oil from Qatar, and the US responded by striking Iranian communication lines, drones, and missile bases.
