Police Officer Tayfun Akalan, who was on duty at the Van Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch Directorate, died as a martyr after he could not be saved despite all interventions at the hospital where he was taken following a traffic accident.
Police officer Tayfun Akalan, who was injured in an accident involving 3 vehicles on the Hakkari-Van highway along the Güzeldere Tunnel route, was martyred.
POLICE OFFICER MARTYRED
Three vehicles were involved in an accident on the Hakkari-Van highway, where the road became slippery due to precipitation. Twelve people, including 3 police officers who were reportedly returning from district duty, were injured in the accident. Upon notification, medical, AFAD, and firefighting teams were dispatched to the scene. The injured were taken to hospitals in Van and Başkale district for treatment after first aid, while police officer Tayfun Akalan, who was injured in the accident and could not be saved despite all interventions, was martyred. An investigation has been launched into the accident.

In a condolence message shared on his social media account for Akalan, Minister of Interior Mustafa Çiftçi said, "Police Officer Tayfun Akalan, assigned to the Van Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch Directorate, was injured in the traffic accident that occurred and was martyred after not being saved despite all interventions in the hospital where he was taken. I wish God's mercy for our martyr and offer my condolences to his grieving family, our Heroic Security Organization, and our Nation. May our martyr's station be exalted."
