Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who holds a FIFA badge, stated that he wants to officiate the crucial derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe. Marciniak was named 'Referee of the Year' by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) in both 2023 and 2024.
Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who holds a FIFA badge, has expressed his desire to officiate the critical derby between Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe.
In response to TV100's Ersin Düzen's question, "How would you view such an invitation from Turkey?" Marciniak replied, "I don't want to say anything without such an invitation or agenda."
To Ersin Düzen's question, "It seems that the Galatasaray - Fenerbahçe derby will be officiated by a foreign referee. Would you consider it?" he answered, "If there is no match in UEFA or a derby in the Polish League, and if I am not assigned, then of course I can officiate the Galatasaray - Fenerbahçe derby."
HE OFFICIATED THE LAST WORLD CUP FINAL
The 44-year-old Polish referee Marciniak blew the whistle in the 2022 FIFA World Cup final played in Qatar between Argentina and France.
HE OFFICIATED THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL
Marciniak, who started his professional refereeing career in 2009 and has held a FIFA badge since 2011, also officiated the 2018 UEFA Super Cup final and the 2023 UEFA Champions League final played in Istanbul between Manchester City and Inter.
