A new era is starting for electricity and natural gas bills. Those who consume a lot of electricity will pay more starting from February. However, two groups will be exempt from the new application.
Electricity bills will change as of February 1st. In the new period, those who consume a lot of electricity will pay higher bills. Citizens with a consumption of more than 417 kilowatt-hours per month will purchase electricity services at real costs. Those who consume a large amount of electricity will pay more with the upcoming bills starting from February.
HOW WILL THE NEW REGULATION BE?
The regulation will affect those who consume a large amount of electricity. The annual usage limit will be set at 5,000 kilowatt-hours. This will correspond to 417 kilowatt-hours monthly. The average total consumption of subscribers over the year will be effective. Real costs will be reflected to those who consume above this limit.
HOW WILL BILLS BE CALCULATED?
Those who pay bills over 1,050 lira in residential areas will move to the upper tier. For commercial enterprises, this figure will correspond to 5,000 lira. The average electricity bill for a household in Turkey is calculated to be 414 lira. The amount to be paid for electricity usage above the determined limit will double. Those who previously consumed electricity worth 1,050 lira will now pay 2,000 lira. Bills below this limit will remain unchanged. In other words, those who consume electricity worth 500 lira will continue to pay 500 lira.
WHO WILL BE AFFECTED?
There are approximately 40 million residential subscribers in Turkey. The new model will affect 3% of this, which is 1.2 million subscribers. With the regulation, 50 billion lira of Treasury support will be removed.
TWO GROUPS WILL BE EXEMPT
The regulation will apply not only to in-house usage but also to independent units in apartments and sites, as well as all common areas such as elevators and stair automation. Mosques and cemevis will be exempt from the application.
