SONAR Research's May 2026 "Turkey's Preferences" survey made a significant impact on the political agenda. In the survey, voters were asked about two different scenarios. In the scenario where Özgür Özel forms a new party, that party emerged as the winner with 32.7%, while in the current scenario where Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is at the helm of the CHP, the AK Party took the lead with 30.3%.
SONAR Research shared the results of its survey titled "Turkey's Preferences" for the May 2026 period with the public. Conducted amid the activity within the CHP and discussions on vision, the research presented voters with two different and striking general election scenarios. The resulting table provides important clues about the political balance.
IF ÖZGÜR ÖZEL FOUNDS A NEW PARTY, HOW DOES THE TABLE SHAPE UP?
The most striking result of the research emerged in the first scenario. In the table shaped by the question posed to respondents, "Answer by considering that Özgür Özel and his friends will participate in the general election with a new party," the new political formation led by Özel emerged as the clear first party from the ballot box.
In this scenario, while the AK Party fell to second place, it was notable that the CHP's vote share dropped to single digits. The vote distribution in the new party scenario was as follows:

- AK Party: 27.1
- MHP: 8.8
- DEM Party: 8.3
- İYİ Party: 8.2

THE CURRENT SITUATION SCENARIO UNDER KILIÇDAROĞLU'S LEADERSHIP
In the second part of the research, voters were asked, "In the current situation with Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu as the Chairman of the CHP, which political party would you vote for if a general election were held this Sunday?"
In this scenario where the current situation is maintained, the political table changed completely. While the AK Party rose back to first place, the CHP under Kılıçdaroğlu's leadership ranked second with a vote share of 13.1 percent. Another notable detail was that the DEM Party and the İYİ Party closely followed the CHP.
