In a statement made on his social media account, Ministry Spokesperson Keçeli said, "Within the framework of our normalization process with Armenia, which has been ongoing since 2022, as part of the confidence-building measures taken, bureaucratic preparations regarding the initiation of direct trade between our country and Armenia have been completed as of May 11, 2026. The necessary technical and bureaucratic work for the opening of the common border between the two countries is still ongoing. Thanks to the new regulation implemented, it has become possible for goods going from Turkey to a third country and from there to Armenia, or coming via the same route, to have their final destination or point of departure written as 'Armenia/Turkey.' In light of the historic opportunity seized to strengthen lasting peace and prosperity in the South Caucasus, Turkey will continue to contribute to the development of economic relations in the region and to further advancing cooperation for the benefit of all regional countries and their peoples."
