A series of earthquakes occurred in Istanbul, the largest measuring 6.2 in magnitude. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that they are closely monitoring the developments and said, "I extend my best wishes to our citizens. For now, there doesn't seem to be a troubling situation."

Earthquakes occurred in Istanbul one after another. There were nearly 20 earthquakes, the largest of which was 6.2. The major earthquake was felt not only in Istanbul but also in surrounding provinces. The tremor brought citizens out into the streets in Istanbul, as well as in Izmir, Balıkesir, Çanakkale, and Uşak.

"WE ARE CLOSELY MONITORING"

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan learned about the earthquakes during a program at Beştepe, where he hosted Minister of National Education Yusuf Tekin and accompanying children due to the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day. Erdoğan, who received information from those around him regarding the earthquakes, told the press following the program, "I send my best wishes to our citizens, and we are closely monitoring the developments."

President Erdoğan called Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, Minister of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Murat Kurum, and Minister of Health Kemal Memişoğlu, as well as Istanbul Governor Davut Gül and AFAD President Ali Hamza Pehlivan, to gather information about the developments and gave instructions for the ongoing efforts.

"ALL UNITS OF THE STATE ARE ON ALERT RIGHT NOW"

In his speech at the "TRT 47th International April 23 Children's Festival" held at Beştepe National Exhibition Hall, President Erdoğan stated:

"An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 occurred in Istanbul and our Marmara Region. We send our best wishes from here to all citizens affected by the earthquake, especially our brothers and sisters in Istanbul. All units of the state, especially AFAD and our Ministry of Health, are currently on alert. Our search and rescue operations are ongoing. We are closely monitoring the process. For now, there is no troubling situation observed."
