Mayor of Ankara Mansur Yavaş used the expressions "While flags that I consider rags are being waved, the police gave cotton candy to those going to that rally" at a rally held in Saraçhane regarding the detention and subsequent arrest of Ekrem İmamoğlu.
While Yavaş's statements drew reactions, CHP Chairman Özgür Özel apologized on behalf of Yavaş.
ERDOĞAN'S REACTION TO COTTON CANDY
President Erdoğan reacted to Mansur Yavaş without naming him in his statements after the cabinet meeting.
Erdoğan stated, "Those who attack our security forces with axes and stones are disturbed by our police giving cotton candy to a child."
Erdoğan used the following expressions: "The fact that one of our police officers gives cotton candy, which he bought from a disabled citizen by paying out of his own pocket, to a child is being made a topic by the main opposition. Those who embrace those who attack our police with stones, sticks, and Molotov cocktails are making a fuss about our police offering cotton candy to a child. They shamelessly make a fuss over cotton candy.
"I BELIEVE THIS HAS BEEN NOTED BY OUR KURDISH BROTHERS"
They have no problem with throwing stones, Molotov cocktails, or attacking with axes against the police. They have no concern about the shops, windows, and frames of tradesmen being destroyed. They have no problem with our historical mosques' courtyards being turned into, excuse me, taverns. But the fact that our police distribute cotton candy to our children during the Nevruz holiday disturbs them. I believe this inconsistency and great contradiction has been noted by our nation and especially by our Kurdish brothers.
"THIS FASCIST LANGUAGE IS DOOMED TO LOSE TIME"
This fascist language has lost time in front of the nation and is doomed to lose time in the future. As we get closer to the goal of a Turkey without terrorism, we will apparently witness more of these kinds of rants. We are determined to free our nation from the scourge of terrorism that has drained its blood and resources for forty years.
WHAT DID MANSUR YAVAŞ SAY?
Mayor of Ankara Mansur Yavaş, in his speech at the rally held in front of the İBB headquarters in Saraçhane in support of İmamoğlu, said, "Yesterday, while flags that I consider rags were being waved somewhere in the East, I do not find the intervention here appropriate while the police were giving cotton candy to those going to that rally. We expect the security forces to also offer cotton candy to the young people here."
