While all eyes in the AK Party are focused on the grand congress to be held on Sunday, February 23, President Erdoğan will be working intensively this week on the formation of the new party leadership. Changes will be made both in the Cabinet and in the Central Decision and Executive Board (MKYK), and Vice President Yılmaz and Acting Chairman Âlâ have been assigned to oversee the new appointments. The new leadership will take demographic structure into account, with an emphasis on women and youth.

After President Erdoğan's signal for change, all eyes in the AK Party are turned to the grand congress to be held on Sunday, February 23, while Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz and Deputy Chairman Efkan Âlâ have been assigned regarding the names to be included in the new party administration to be determined at the congress. It has been stated that Yılmaz and Âlâ are working on a draft list for the MKYK and have presented it to the President. It is also reported that Erdoğan has received name suggestions for the MKYK list from some of his advisors.

60% OF THE MKYK WILL CHANGE

According to the news from Yücel Kayaoğlu of Türkiye Newspaper, the demographic structure, provincial and regional balance, and the ratio of women and youth will be prioritized for the new MKYK, which will consist of 75 members. Additionally, it is stated that some deputy ministers and some committee chairpersons in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey may be transferred to the MKYK. AK Party sources emphasize that while preparing the MKYK list, some names seen as the party's 'memory' will retain their positions, and especially the number of young people and women may increase. It is also mentioned that some former metropolitan mayors may also be included in the MKYK. In the extraordinary congress of the AK Party held in October 2023, 49 out of 75 members of the MKYK were changed. In the AK Party corridors, it is confidently expected that at least 60% of the current MKYK members will change this time as well.

"WE WILL WORK WITH YOU IN DIFFERENT AREAS"

It is reported that Erdoğan told some of the deputy chairpersons, "We will work with you in different areas," indicating that they will not be part of the new administration. In this context, significant changes are expected among the 18 members of the MYK, while it is noted that some names will have their areas of responsibility changed.

"I DO NOT PLAN TO TAKE NAMES FROM THE ASSEMBLY TO THE CABINET"

On the other hand, it is being discussed in the AK Party corridors that the possibility of changes in the cabinet being postponed until after the congress has increased. It has been learned that the President has not made any evaluations with his advisors regarding cabinet changes so far, but during a meeting, he stated, "I do not plan to take names from the Assembly to the cabinet." AK Party sources assessed that "In this case, the possibility of appointing a minister from among the current members of parliament is almost negligible."
