President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke by phone with US President Donald Trump. During the call, which addressed bilateral relations and regional developments, Erdogan emphasized diplomacy in the US-Iran tension while noting the importance of the Makkah Agreement signed by Turkey with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia for regional stability. Erdogan also drew attention to the increase in actions by the Israeli administration targeting Palestinians during the period when the goal was to move to the second phase of the Gaza peace process.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan held a strategic telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. In the meeting, which addressed Turkey-US bilateral relations as well as regional developments, Erdogan delivered important messages regarding the Iran tension, the peace process in Gaza, and the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement signed by Turkey with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
According to a statement from the Presidency's Directorate of Communications, the leaders discussed Turkey-US bilateral relations and regional and global developments during the call.
"DIPLOMACY SHOULD BE PRIORITIZED IN IRAN TENSION"
One of the main agenda items of the meeting was the escalating tension between the US and Iran. President Erdogan stated that it is important to make maximum use of diplomacy in the tension between Iran and the US, expressed his hope that talks would continue, and said that Turkey would continue to support peace efforts.
MAKKAH AGREEMENT
President Erdogan stated that with the Makkah Joint Defense Agreement signed with Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, Turkey has demonstrated a strong stance to ensure regional stability and security.
SECOND PHASE IN THE GAZA PLAN
President Erdogan emphasized that at a time when the aim is to move to the second phase in the Gaza peace process, there has been an increase in the Israeli administration's actions targeting Palestinians, and that Turkey will continue to support lasting peace in the region and steps to be taken for the reconstruction of Gaza.
