Upon returning from Italy, President Erdoğan answered a question about U.S. President Trump while on the plane. Erdoğan stated, "We will have a face-to-face meeting with Trump at the first opportunity. Our phone conversation was quite sincere, productive, and friendly. I believe that with my friend Trump, we will give a very different momentum to our bilateral relations in the new era."
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made statements regarding the agenda and foreign policy upon his return from his visit to Italy. Answering questions from journalists, President Erdoğan stated that he would meet with U.S. President Donald Trump soon.
ERDOĞAN: WE WILL MEET FACE TO FACE WITH TRUMP AT THE FIRST OPPORTUNITY
President Erdoğan said: "We will have a face-to-face meeting with Mr. Trump at the first opportunity. Our phone conversation was quite sincere, productive, and friendly. The relations between the two countries are deep-rooted and profound. We have many topics to discuss and many steps to take. Therefore, our ministries are continuing their work for our meeting, which will guide the course of Turkey-U.S. relations. The timing of this is also being considered within the scope of those studies.

We occasionally have contacts with Mr. Trump in the form of telephone diplomacy. I believe that we will give a very different momentum to our bilateral relations with my friend Trump in the new era. We also support his vision for peace, especially regarding Russia-Ukraine. We welcome his attitude that takes into account Turkey's sensitivities. We see that as two leaders, we understand each other regarding Syria.
Of course, our search for compromise on issues where we think differently will continue on a reasonable ground. We are two leaders who believe that we can overcome issues that are seen as risks by different circles through dialogue and diplomacy."
