A private jet that experienced an engine failure shortly after takeoff in the Dominican Republic crashed near the airport while attempting an emergency landing. The pilot and co-pilot on board died as the aircraft caught fire, and an investigation into the cause of the accident has been launched.
A private business jet that suffered an engine failure shortly after takeoff in the Dominican Republic crashed and burst into flames during an emergency landing attempt. Two crew members on board lost their lives in the accident.
According to the preliminary report from the Emergency Operations Center (COE), the Gulfstream GALX type private jet with tail number N318JF experienced an engine failure shortly after departing from La Romana International Airport.
ATTEMPTED EMERGENCY LANDING
Following the engine failure, the pilots returned to the airport and initiated emergency landing procedures. However, the jet, which managed to reach near the airport, crashed into an empty field before achieving a safe landing.
In the accident, the pilot and co-pilot died at the scene. Authorities stated that there were no passengers on board other than the crew.
TURNED INTO A FIREBALL
In images shared on social media, thick smoke was seen rising from the engine of the jet trying to approach the runway. Moments later, the plane went out of control, crashed, and turned into a fireball with a huge explosion, captured on camera.
According to information in the local press, the pilots tried to return to the airport due to the malfunction that occurred after takeoff. However, it was reported that the crew, approaching from the opposite direction of the runway in use during the return maneuver, could not make a safe landing.

A comprehensive investigation has been launched by aviation authorities to determine the exact cause of the accident. Expert teams are investigating engine failure as well as piloting and technical factors.
