Professor Dr. Kamil Özdil, a Gastroenterology Specialist at Biruni University Medical Faculty Hospital, was a guest of moderator Meral Karadağ on Haberler.com. Professor Dr. Özdil made important statements about swallowable gastric balloons, sleeve gastrectomy surgeries, and healthy eating in the treatment of obesity.
Biruni University Gastroenterology Specialist Prof. Dr. Kamil Özdil answered the questions of Meral Karadağ in the "Recovery Starts Here" program. Addressing many topics from the ban on swallowable gastric balloons to surgical interventions in obesity treatment, Özdil made critical warnings.
"THE USE OF SWALLOWABLE GASTRIC BALLOONS HAS BEEN BANNED"
Prof. Dr. Özdil, who made statements regarding swallowable gastric balloons, said, "Handicaps have emerged with swallowable balloons. There are cases of individuals who have died without undergoing endoscopy with these balloons. Therefore, the use of this application has been banned," he stated.
"THE WEIGHT REGAIN RATE AFTER GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERIES IS 40%"
Evaluating the results of obesity surgery, Prof. Dr. Özdil stated, "The positive results of gastric sleeve surgeries are much better than before. However, we observe that 30-40% of the weight lost after surgery is regained." Özdil emphasized that this situation is directly related to the patient's motivation and conditioning.
"NUTRITIONAL HABITS ARE VERY IMPORTANT IN OBESITY"
Listing the most effective ways to prevent obesity, Prof. Dr. Özdil said, "Excessive consumption of fried foods makes obesity inevitable. At the same time, one should stay away from deli products such as salami, sausage, and sucuk. It is important to avoid alcohol, cigarettes, and fried foods for stomach and intestinal health," emphasizing the importance of healthy eating habits.
