According to a report in De Telegraaf, Nainggolan was arrested as part of an investigation into drug trafficking carried out at the port of Antwerp from South America to Europe. The report also mentioned that searches were conducted at more than 30 homes as part of the ongoing investigation.

The 36-year-old Nainggolan, who has played for teams such as Cagliari, Roma, and Inter in Italy, and Antwerp in Belgium, transferred to the Third Division team Lokeren-Temse at the beginning of the season.
